Such A Busy Morning

All my daughters are accomplished gift givers.  Recently A Bride Daughter has, well.. a special gift in the area of gifting.  Many years ago she gave me a burlap bag.  Doesn't sound like much, but it was PERFECT.  All this time it has been my go to bag for crochet projects.  It perfectly stashed my hook roll (Yes, there is such a thing...) assorted unfinished granny squares, various paper instructions, and an overabundance of yarn.  Yesterday I reached for my trusty burlap friend, in order to work on my "Tribute to Mondo" headband series, and was stabbed in the hand.

The brads holding the perfect handle had finally worked free and, despite my best efforts, could not be safely repositioned.  The bamboo handle wrappers came unspun and the dowels securing the handles themselves fell to pieces.  I considered pulling out my trusty roll of duct tape....until my other hand got stabbed in the attempt.  I tells ya, I felt like sobbing.  I wish you could have seen this bag in better days.

Instead, I decided to recycle it.  More complications of course.  Last week when Darling Eldest Daughter was here I had her bring up a 45 year old roll of wallpaper.  Canvas, really, my Dad hated wallpaper.  So, before I cut up the bag I covered three shoeboxes with swaths of canvas.  I really gotta brag because rarely does an idea of mine work out so well.  Look past the overflowing bags and the dust encrusted picture frames.

Cool, huh?  Gotta get me some dark brown ribbon to finish them off, but, hey I am really proud of myself.  Future home of deborah2252 is off and running.  So to speak.  Thanks, Dad.  Thanks, Sister and Son for the two box contributions.  Thanks, D. E. D., for the laundry and the legwork.  Thanks, R. A. B. D. for the inspiration.  Oh, I cut up the old burlap bag and stashed it in one of the boxes with some other fabric and paper scraps for future projects.  Now Evil Debbe is waiting to see what will happen when the Flying Monkeys report in to Mommy Dearest.  Might not happen, but gotta prepare, ya know?  Til then I am incredibly pleased with my busy morning.
