Sincerely

They take very good care of the building here at Elder House.  Yesterday was tuck pointing the upper stories.  Huge "Bil/Jak" parked outside my window as Travis from Maintenance (that is how he introduces himself) was hoisted high high in the air.  Travis is kind of a dork, a sweet dork, but a dork none the less.  The crew boss doesn't seem to think very highly of Travis; I've heard him making quite disparaging remarks about Travis to Sharon from Maintenance (see previous parenthetical note).  And so I wonder why T was given the uber responsible and oh so visible from the street, tuck pointing assignment.  Is he better at his job than I've been led to believe?  Is the crew boss plotting something nefarious?  Is T the only one who meets the Bil/Jak weight limitations?

Today was waxing the halls yet again.  They are always fairly clean and shiny and slippery looking.  Garbage must be transported through the length to the elevators and then up to a higher level to be chuted down to ground level.  Bad planning.  Since most of the residents, like me, have walking or lifting issues, sometimes the hall floors get a trifle funky from a leaky trash bag.  I have low standards and step around.  Besides it's never for long and is always spic and span by my return trip.

The reason I mention the wax job is because I was planning an excursion of sorts.  I wanted to leave before nine.  Didn't happen because the entire hall was shiny and slippery wet.  Death for the cane tips I rely on.  And so I was forced to wait til the floor dried.  As it happened it took twice as long as usual to hobble to the exit and was at least three times as terrifying as usual.  I DO NOT ever want to be the "I've fallen and I can't get up!" Lady,  (And please resist the urge to buy me one of those gadgets.  I will NOT be amused.)  Trip delayed by over an hour.

But what did I see when I finally reached Ancient Vehicle?  Kids walking home from school????!!!!!  When did that happen?  First day of school, half day of school and I missed it.  Damn.  I am officially out of that loop.  And I really, really miss it.  Sincerely.
