Had an unexpected phone conversation with a buddy from my high school days. (daze?) Traded chillun news, aches and pains woes, and gratitude for the current breathtakingly beautiful weather. Then she told me that in two weeks she will be unemployed.
In these abominable economic times I know my friend is not alone. She's worked for this company for years. Has made steady progression in the management track. Is innovative, motivated, and educated. Took, and takes, the crappy shifts that no one else wants. Bites her tongue when bosses are stupid. Believed them when she was told what a valued employee she was and is. In these abominable economic times it was no great surprise when she was called in and informed that in two weeks her entire department was being eliminated. Thanks and clean out your desk.
Go ahead. Ask. What department is considered expendable?
