Do A Good Deed Dammit!

I don't even know this guy.  I received the post from an instructor I highly respect.  Please help.  If you can't give up any organ parts then help get out the word.  And prayers are appreciated, too.

I'm type A+ but I will help get the word out.

Help Paul Find an Organ Donor

As you may or may not know, about five years ago Paul was diagnosed with a rare auto immune disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). There is no cure except a liver transplant. This disease affects people differently but for Paul its caused irreparable damage to his liver. He now has End Stage IV liver ...cirrhosis. His symptoms are quite debilitating and require numerous medications and hospital stays to manage. About a year ago he qualified to be a candidate for organ transplant. He is currently "on the list" at two different transplant hospitals. Unfortunately, the scoring system that is used (MELD) does not adequately measure the degree of illness or the suffering of a PSC patient as it would say for someone with Hepatitis. Under this scoring system, it is likely that Paul will never score high enough to get a cadaver transplant. So at present we are beginning to look for a live donor. Two operations are conducted simultaneously. In this scenario, one surgical team removes a portion of the donor's liver while another team removes the old one and grafts the donated part into Paul. The donor’s liver will regenerate fully in just a few months. Paul’s liver will grow to full size within a year. At first, Paul was uneasy with the idea of someone else (be it family, friend or stranger) taking any sort of risk like this to help him out. But statistics show the risk is little to none for the donor. His hospital has a 100% success rate with the donors (http://www.nmh.org/nm/transplant). Recently, Paul was told if a person genuinely wants to help you, you should not be the one to stand in his or her way. If you know Paul, you know there is no one more deserving of a second chance at life. Paul's main motivation is be around to see his grand daughter Luci grow up. Here are the parameters for a donor: - Blood type must be "O" - Donor's BMI must be BELOW 30 - Must be between 18 and 55 years of age - Must schedule an evaluation at Northwestern Medical Center (Chicago, IL) - All expenses related to surgery and recovery and will be entirely covered by Paul's insurance (recovery time is typically 3-6 weeks). Interested persons can discuss this factually and confidentially with a transplant contact at the hospital before making a decision. We have designated a friend of the family to handle inquiries about donating so please email findpaulaliver@gmail.com for more information. Should you wish to remain anonymous just let them know. If you know you cannot be considered a candidate for live transplant but want to help, please consider becoming an organ donor. Visit www.donatelife.net to learn more. We thank you kindly for sharing this message with others.
