Farewell

Remember a while back I wrote about how March was coming in like an idiot and going out like an even bigger idiot?  I was mostly referring to the insane weather; but March found new and better ways to prove lunacy.  For instance:

Pennies that cost twice  as much to make!  Canada will  quit production, but thanks to the zinc lobby, the good old U S ofA will continue losing money for god knows how much longer.  Will we see riots in the streets?  A long hot summer's worth of entertainment.  A penny for those thoughts!

Gas costs almost six dollars a gallon in Nome.  Who gives a shit? Those Nomians, I suppose.  And the rest of us, too, when that price comes to our towns.  Curtailing the vacation plans to the sunnier coasts puts a crimp in one's happiness quota.  What will be the results of the inability to afford a trip to the clinic?

One and one half billion dollars spent on this week's lottery.  I did not invest.  I don't even speculate about what I would do if I did win.  It makes me ashamed that so much is spent when there are other human needs that could be completely solved FOREVER with a shot of money that big.

And finally, Dr. M. Jack Parker died.  A debate coach and teacher like no other.  He was arrogant and funny and knowledgeable and an incredible hearts player.  I am still honored that I got to sit at his table and play the game with him.  I think he cheated.  He probably cheated.  And now he's gone.  And that alone is proof that March is a big idiot.
