God bless Google! I was trolling their images section looking for something else when I found this! It is the fire station a few blocks behind my grandparent's home. This is how it looks today. This is how it looked fifty years ago! What a sweet gift.
My father used to walk with me and the little kids to visit this fire station. He pulled the little kids on a home made wagon of weathered grey boards. The building had immaculate white walls and a brass fire pole. Yes, I did slide down. The experience was terrifying and exhilarating as most childhood challenges are. We were also allowed to ring the bell on the hood of the engine. It had a rope pull cord. Probably state of the art fifty years ago.
I wish I could have taken my children there. I know my grandson would love it. I wish my father was around to pull Milo on that wagon. That's a sight I would love to see.
