These Would Totally Be My Lines

AND

AND

If I can ever find Vivi's confessional scene from "Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood" that would go right here.
Skip the commercials.
To be continued.

"Many Bothans Died"

I love that line.

And I love the face and voice of the female character who presents it.  She looks all dreamy eyed and sorrowful.  I imagine she knows what a great sacrifice is.

So I couldn't help but wonder (to blatantly steal a Carrie Bradshaw line and hopelessly mix my television and film metaphors) what was the name of this person whoever so briefly appears in Return of the Jedi?  And who, pray tell, came up with the names for all the Star Wars "stuff"?  Planets, people, vehicles, weapons, all the other characters.  I was betting George Lucas.  And I was pretty sure the answer would be easy to find.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered the following:
Yes, a giant wiki totally devoted to Star Wars info. I thought my questions were simple. NOPE!!!  I'm not an obsessed SW fan by any means.  Haven't thought about the films in years.  And so I was astonished to read about the ever continuing saga.  More battles!  More planets!  And SO many more characters!  Since I didn't know the name of the woman I was seeking I tried for Princess Leia.  I figured she was major and perhaps there would be a reference.

Oh, Lordee Lordee!  So much information!  So many tangents!  She and Han got married, apparently.  I can picture them changing intergalactic diapers and arguing about weapons themed pre schools. The three Solo kids were all handsome. Yet, somehow different from their parents. Jacen and Jaina the twins.  Anakin the baby brother.
Jacen
Jaina
Anakin

See the difference?  Mommy Leia is an actual human.  The kiddies are sketches.  Comic book characters?  Computer generated images? Beats me, but I'd had enough.  I did not want to wade through hundreds of pages of information about more pretend stuff attempting to find my answer.  And I did NOT want to see anymore CG stuff either.  Clearly there was a reason why I had stopped watching SW films when the "first" three were theatrically released.

I never did find out the character's name.  (And I DO NOT want to be chided for giving up the search or pointed in another online direction!)  But I still figure Lucas did the official naming.  He always seemed to have his eye on the bottom line.  May the force be with you.

Caint

All shampooed and showered and off to the Big Box.  The beets I grew as foliage (and stunning foliage it was!) are finally spent and so I decided to treat myself to some potted herbs.  Rosemary for chicken.  Sage to make fake sausage of ground turkey.  Mint because it has one of the best, cleanest fragrances in the flora kingdom.  And because I think I'm going to add fresh mint to some of my new smoothies

Replenishing yoghurt and cheese when I happen upon tubes of chorizo.  Reasonably priced and within reach of my gimpified self.  When I was a young married, I used to shop at a teeny Mexican grocery.  There was an actual butcher.  He'd hack off a chunk of ground chuck and a half pound lump of chorizo and grind them together before my very eyes.  Made the best grilling burgers I have ever tasted.

Since then I have read Eating Animals and learned how the last edible dregs are literally exploded off a hog's face.  It's a hideous procedure and the men (and it was always men in the book) get sick and die or get killed when the machine, with its many knives, misfires.  I have also learned from Hannibal Rising that cheek meat of any beast is the most tender.

So......in the aisle, at the Big Box, I turned over the chorizo tubes and actually dared to read the ingredient list.  "Pork salivary glands, lymph nodes, and cheek meat."  Uh Oh.

These might be delicacies in other cultures or on other planets, but I very nearly retched.  I replaced the tubes of alleged human food (yes, my perception changed that quickly) and I sped off.  God bless the electric carts.

Cheese and crackers for me tonight, thanks.

Depends Upon Your Point Of View

In the past few days I have been watching all the Star Wars episodes via YouTube clips.
Fun, because I can pick and choose scenes, "rewind" what I especially like and skip the interminable battle scenes.
Let's face it, if you've watched once you know who is going to live or not.  All the duelling seems phony baloney; those twisting jumps are snazzy but would a real dueller have time to think about snazziness?  And the flying battle scenes?  Yawn.  Bang, bang, zoom, zoom.  Where does all the sound come from in the vacuum of space, eh?
Nah.
I like the plot and I adore the characters.  Even the Bad Guys.  Maybe especially the Bad Guys.
And I relish the memories these films evoke for me.
I was a young married lady when the original Star Wars was released.
My brother Frankie got my husband and I balcony seats and, well... we were instantly enthralled.
Those majestic credits daringly rolling backwards and that triumphant John Williams score.
By the time Empire was released we had a baby daughter and you can bet we brought her; perched in her white bucket car seat turned toward the screen.
Her eyes became saucers as the rebels zipped by on the planet Hoth.  Good times.
So, I have been enjoying this blast from the past.
If you don't have the time or luxury I strongly recommend the following.

Ashes Too Soon

I don't remember the specific reason why I reserved Edie Girl On Fire.  That doesn't really matter I suppose.  Her name probably came up in google searches I did about Andy Warhol.  I'm not a big Warhol fan, although some of his pieces really touch me; but I am interested in the way he surrounded himself with beautiful women.  But if a reader is searching for facts or serious biography, this is not the book for you.

                                                           lots of great chandelier earrings
First a word about the book itself.  It measures almost 91/2" by 12" but is as heavy as a coffee table book twice its size.  This makes it very awkward to read in bed.  The dust jacket itself is a lethal weapon, brittle, sharp, and capable of inflicting vicious gashes.  Many pages use a shiny font printed on black paper.  Then these pages are washed in purples or dark blues.  The reader may wish to invest in heavy gloves and a flashlight.

The authors quote the same five or six people over and over and they seem to say pretty much the same things over and over.  Dull things that are not very enlightening.  'There was something about her.  She would be there doing stuff.'  We quickly learn that she was wealthy, plagued by her parents, and indulged by almost everyone.  Do we see an After School Special developing here?  She runs away to New York.  Not to "get famous" but rather to be with famous people.

Besides Warhol, Edie mused it up for Bob Dylan for a bit.  Is she the girl who inspired "Blond On Blond"?  The question is never really answered.  The book has jillions of photos and, clearly, Edie was beguiling.  The phrase "the camera loved her" could have been coined after viewing her shots.  Movie makers, artists, song writers, photographers, clothing designers all did better work with the lovely Miss Sedgwick around.   But what did SHE do other than be cute?

The book gives us a couple sketches of dragons and a clay horse sculpture.  And that's about it.  But I get it.  She was the first one who was famous for being famous.  Less vapid than Paris.  A shorter filmography than Lindsey.  Did not sing like Britney.  If Edie were alive today her name would probably be smeared all over perfume or shoes like those nothing Kardashian girls. She'd be almost 70 today; who can speculate what she'd be up to.  Famous for being famous?  Doesn't sound like anything to brag about.  Not then.  Not now.

Oh.  Most of the men in Edie's biological family had peculiar nicknames.  "Fuzzy" "Minty"  I wonder what that might indicate.  This is my favorite picture.  In the book it is flipped around the other way.

This Is So Creepy

I have not gone to a movie in years.  If I wanted the crap scared out of me I would go see this all alone.

And then I would probably sleep with the lights on for the rest of my life.
