If I can ever find Vivi's confessional scene from "Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood" that would go right here.
Skip the commercials.

Social Actioning With All Kinds of Style

April 28, 2012
Building 7
College of Lake County

If you weren't there you missed a group of  extremely motivated community minded individuals setting (Dare I say it?) ridiculous world records for an excellent cause.

The Social Action Club raised  more than $1,600.00 (which amount in and of itself was yet another world record by an outside group) for the Zacharias Center in Gurnee.

The Z Center is one of Lake County's premier organizations for absolutely free treatment, counseling, and support for survivors of sexual abuse or domestic violence.

The club members and their families spent the day smacking tennis balls with hand sanitizer, filling their pockets with ice cubes, shooting baskets with stuffed animals, singing "Twinkle Twinkle" while munching jumbo marshmallows, and bouncing on a pogo stick while naming African countries after swallowing two (TWO!) jalapeno peppers to name just a few record shattering attempts.

All world records must be verified by the Recordsetter organization of course.
Kudos to all!
Especially the young Cullen brothers, Eli and Xavy, who raised almost $600.00 in pledges on their own.  And who behaved in such an exemplary manner for over five hours!  No whining or arguing and no video games.  Kids at their best!

There were also yummy baked goods, peanut butter free puppy chow, and a big assortment of the kind of candy forbidden by parents everywhere.  I highly recommend the almond bear claw.  My understanding is that another bake sale with freshly made treats, is to be held on campus this coming Thursday.  Definitely, check it out!
Oh!  The raffle will also continue, but that glitter lava lamp is going to be mine! (Seriously!  I never gamble, but I put my money down on a chance for that sparkly thang!)

So, my Persons of the Week Award goes to the members of the CLC Social Action Club, all their remarkable family members, and their fearless leader Professor Mick Cullen.
Mark your calendars for next year's event!
And consider smashing or setting some records of your own!

Gah!

Dear David,

I love you, but this cover photo is really creepy.

I admit I've completed only the first three stories.  So far so good.  If these guys turn out to be IN the book, perhaps I will be less harsh
But, David!  Come on!  I don't care if it was 1994 that unibrow is inexcusable.  Those hat brims should be decidedly more snapped.  And I'm pretty sure the ties should be skinnier.  For historical accuracy and all.  I don't mean to nit pick.  I expect a lot from you.
One good thing about the picture is that there are no visible piercings.  Not that I am opposed to  piercings.  I'm not.  I just wanted to end  this post on a positive note.
Now carry on.

Because He Is A Robot

His audio/verbal programming has probably malfunctioned.
Please call in the Fashion Computer Geek Department or whomever handles that sort of glitch.
Anyway, do something so he keeps his mouth closed.
Designing, yes.
Social criticism,no.

Baked Nostril

Many things changed when I took up residence here at Elder House.  Almost all of them good. (I am considering a scary stalker-type murder of the incredibly loud woman who lives at the end of the hall, however.)  Actually I made a secret vow that I would never be cold again.  Granted, this winter has been frighteningly  mild compared to last year, and so the comparison is not entirely fair.   Last year February looked like this:
And this was before it got really deep.  By the end of the BIG STORM my faithful Ancient Vehicle was glaciered in under a pile of snow as high as Mommy Dearest's garage.  Today it looks more like this:

Not nearly as big and bad.  And it's supposed to melt by Thursday.

So, it might very well be apples and oranges.  But, attempting to sleep with blankets wrapped around my head and ultimately waking with a face frozen in my own drool was decidedly unpleasant.  I blogged about it and later learned that mucho offense was taken.  Ah, well.  Add it to the list.  All I meant was I was fuckin' cold!!!

I moved here in late April and the heat wasn't turned on til, maybe late October.  It was chilly and I had my vow to consider.  I wore an old sweater to bed and scootched close to the wall.  Those big old bricks REALLY do radiate heat back in the dark.  I was pleasantly warm.

Now it's mid February.  Heat's on.  Sometimes so much so that I slide the window open at night.  The room is almost instantly filled with brisk, clear air.  I snuggle down and breathe deeply.  Quiet and delicious.  After a few minutes I feel the gel foam that is my cheek start to go numb.  Then the message reaches the sensors in my brain.  The ones that say:  Danger, Will Robinson!
Yeah, just like that.  And I reach up and slide the window shut.  BECAUSE I CAN!  And I feel heat wafting up ever so gently without a sound.  BECAUSE IT DOES!  And I am warm, warm, warm.  Some days I wake up with the non-pillowed side of my nose crackly with roasted snot.  But, hey, we all pay a price for things, eh?
